Could another engine help the world change?
A separate prototype tests how requests could change the environment through Python. Unreal cannot render here yet, so Unity remains the selected engine while the comparison awaits a working toolchain.
Full entry & measurements
We explored the environment-change pattern in Pipecat's Unreal demo while preserving Python's authority. A new isolated local service validates nine environment settings, checks revisions, and persists changes and retry receipts atomically. An original Unreal 5.3 C++ project polls confirmed snapshots and contains a primitive scene and console command path; that native source has not compiled or rendered. Fixed text phrases provide a repeatable test path. Voice, Pipecat transport, local Qwen integration and resident simulation are not implemented in this slice. The existing Habitat save and Unity runtime were not used. Measurements on 15 October 2026, final experiment source unreal-lab-b9bf3f51d628: 121/121 scoped automated checks passed (56 experiment and 65 overview/export/evidence; source: tests-final.xml). The validated schema has nine environment settings (authority.py). Two accepted commands exercised a real loopback HTTP service; restart restored revision 2 and an unsupported command was rejected with state unchanged (http-probe.json). There are zero new rendered Unreal frames: installed UE 5.3.2 editor startup reports Xcode Not Found, and the native build exits before project compilation. These are Python boundary checks, not Unreal graphical or performance acceptance. Source hashes and reports remain in private evaluation staging. Visual evidence for pending scene iteration 01-environment-scene is unavailable because full Xcode and the Metal compiler are missing. No substitute artwork or unrelated gameplay frame is attached. Keep Unity selected until a working native build permits individually reviewed captures and a matched comparison with the same local inference workload. Full findings and run instructions: docs/unreal-evaluation.md. The active intelligence session acknowledged the documentation standard and agreed on non-overlapping ownership.
